In February, Lockheed Martin hosted an MTConnect meeting. MTConnect kindly arranged for a half-day workshop on standards interoperability following it, which included discussions among leaders of MTConnect, OAGi, IPC, and NIST. Meeting participants discussed the current state of myriad standards and the challenges implementers have in determining what standard is most appropriate to be applied to a given interoperability scenario. Furthermore, implementers face challenges in understanding how standards relate to one other, which when pursuing leads to a need to understand standards organizations and sometimes even various people involved. The participants concluded that while addressing this challenge will likely never be fully achieved, diligent collaboration will reduce confusion and improve implementer productivity.
